Slow cooker carrots honey soy sauce chicken

Sweet and savoury, this slow cooker chicken recipe combines tender carrots with a luscious honey-soy glaze for a fuss-free, flavourful meal

For 4 people


  • 800 g carved chicken

  • 4 carrots

  • 2 onions

  • 3 garlic cloves

  • thyme

  • 3 bay leaves

  • 120 ml (½ cup) soy sauce

  • 120 ml (½ cup) honey

  • 120 ml (½ cup) water

  • 60 ml (¼ cup) tomato paste

  • 1 tablespoon Worcester sauce

  • 2 tablespoons cornflour


  1. Place the carved chicken at the bottom of the slow cooker

  2. Chop the carrots and onions and crush the garlic cloves.

  3. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, water, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until smooth.

  4. Add the chopped vegetables, sauce, thyme, and bay leaves to the slow cooker, covering the chicken

  5. Cover and cook on low heat for 8 hours.

  6. One hour before the end, remove the chicken. Sift in 2 tablespoons of cornflour and stir well to thicken the sauce. Return the chicken to the slow cooker, cover, and continue cooking for the final hour.

  7. Pair with mashed potatoes and pan-fried mushrooms as shown in the picture. Alternatively, serve with rice, polenta, or couscous.
